The Toolbox
The Stockbridge Affordable Housing Trust can take a number of different approaches in its efforts to develop new affordable housing or rehabilitate existing buildings. The Trust is currently garnering financial resources so that we have sufficient funding when a good opportunity arises. We are in all likelihood going to have to partner with a developer or builder who can provide most of the funding, with our contribution making the difference between a project that goes forward and one that gets sidelined.
Here are some of the ways the Trust may be able to generate new housing:
Acquire and rehabilitate a building to provide multiple units of housing
Provide subsidies for building Accessory Dwelling Units to be occupied by full-time residents
Create a pocket neighborhood of 4 to 6 tiny homes (400 square feet) and smaller houses under 900 square feet with private buyers supplying most of the funding
Assist with the development of mixed income housing at the Stockbridge Industrial Park. We may be able to secure state grants to pay for infrastructure improvements in a project that could produce several dozen units of housing
Locate a suitable parcel and partner with a developer/builder in creating several units of mixed income housing
Provide down payment assistance to first time home buyers
We are on the lookout for opportunities to get a project started. We welcome your ideas and suggestions. We need community involvement to make this a success. Visit the Contact page of this website to send in any comments.
